University Galleries at the University of Florida presents Ming: Selections from the Shepps Collectionin the Constance and Linton Grinter Gallery of International Art in Grinter Hall on UF's Campus May 22 - August 11, 2017. Ming: Selections from the Shepps Collection presents a selection of Chinese ceramics from the Ben Shepps Collection, owned by the College of the Arts at the University of Florida.
The late Ben Shepps, Esq. and his wife Roslyn acquired this unique and exciting collection of Chinese Antiquities from 1945 to 1982. Mr. Shepps had lived in China for five years from 1945 to 1950, acquiring important objects for major American art dealers and becoming the US Customs jade expert. He returned to the United States to attend law school, becoming a prominent estate attorney in Long Island, New York. With his antique export license from the Chinese Government he was able to make many trips annually to China until his death in 2003. After the death of Roslyn in 2008, this collection was donated to the College of the Arts at the University of Florida. The collection has also found permanent homes in museums such as the Norton Museum of Art, the Boca Raton Museum of Art, the Lowe Art Museum, the Flint Institute of Art, and the Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art at Cornell University.
