To celebrate the exhibit Florida Tourism | Sunshine and Shadows, the George A. Smathers Libraries will host a reception and panel discussion on Thursday, December 7, 2017, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. in Smathers Library (East), Room 100. The panel will feature UF scholars Diedre Houchen, Center for the Study of Race and Race Relations; Lori Pennington-Gray, Department of Tourism, Recreation and Sport Management; Raja Rahim, Samuel Proctor Oral History Program African American History Project Coordinator; and Briley Rasmussen, School of Art and Art History Museum Studies.
The panel discussion will explore key questions addressed in the exhibition such as:
- Who gets to be a tourist?
- How do race and economics impact one’s experience as a tourist?
