  • Description

This brand new lecture series invites arts-minded professionals to the UF School of Music to share how creativity played a role in their journey to success.

Presented on select Fridays during the School of Music Convocation, the Creative Professional Lecture Series aims to provide an opportunity for students to learn about professional development from people who have been successful through creative solutions, hard work, networking and maybe even a bit of luck. With the changing landscape of the professional world, particularly for musicians and artists, these guest speakers will offer their advice and display the entrepreneurial benefits to fusing creativity with professionalism.

Recital attendance credit will be available.

Our first-ever lecture will feature Nashville-based percussionist, educator, clinician and promoter Tom Hurst. Currently touring and recording with multi-platinum country legend Tracy Lawrence, Hurst has supported artists across the spectrum of popular music for 25 years. Having toured and/or recorded with artists like The Backstreet Boys, Gary Allan, Sister Hazel, Joe Nichols and UF alumnus Easton Corbin (BSA Agricultural & Life Sciences '06), Hurst has also served as a Disney staff musician and performed Broadway-style pit work for various theatre organizations and cruise lines. An alumnus of the School of Music, Hurst has taught at every level of music education, from private lessons to drum and bugle corps, and co-founded Infinity Percussion, an organization of competitive percussion performance ensembles. Throughout his career, Hurst has undertaken multiple non-performance music business-related endeavors, including producing popular and rock music shows, partnering with organizations to provide instrument rental services for international touring entities, serving as a product specialist for music retailers, and representing artists through his promotions/booking entity, Tom Hurst Presents Loud Jamz.
