Creative Apparitions: The Creative Mind Through Stroke

J. Fredric May is a former photojournalist and filmmaker. In 2012, he suffered a major stroke that left him legally blind and subject to extraordinary hallucinations. This life-changing event altered his artistic vision, opening up an entirely new visual style. May’s fragmented and compelling images reveal an artist seeing the world and making art after stroke.

Join us for a panel discussion about the effects of stroke and creativity. May will discuss how his medical experience has informed his art, and how his art has also played a role in his recovery. He will be joined by a panel of experts from the UF Department of Neurology and the UF Center for Arts in Medicine.

His exhibition, Apparition: Postcards from Eye See You, will be on display June 26 - September 16, 2018 at the Harn Museum of Art.
