University Gallery will host two exhibitions showcasing the work of University of Florida School of Art and Art History’s Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree candidates.

The exhibitions will be curated by UF Art History Ph.D. candidate Laura Colkitt and coordinated by Melissa Nunez. They will feature work in a diverse array of media, including graphic design, ceramics, installation, painting, printmaking, sculpture, and video. Laura and Melissa hope to organize their fellow graduate students’ work into a cohesive curatorial program that will enhance the visitor’s reception of this varied collection of works. It should be noted that Laura and Melissa’s curation and coordination is meant to heighten the viewers’ reception of the works, not to limit the work’s interpretation or the artist’s intent in any way.

Curator Laura Colkitt said of the exhibition: “Time Sensitive showcases the capstone projects of twelve Master of Fine Arts students from the University of Florida. While the exhibition comprises works reflecting each artists’ individual practice, the show curates an overarching framework of joint contemplation. The juxtaposition of placing the projects in careful proximity engenders viewer consideration of issues surrounding contemporaneity, memory, and ephemerality. This unique environment thus preserves the artists’ distinct theses while simultaneously building upon a central thematic structure.”
