Chic Radicals: Street Drag as Critical Performance Art in the late 1960s and 1970s

Dr. David Getsy
Eleanor Shea Professor of Art History, Department of Art, University of Virginia

Dr. David Getsy, Eleanor Shea Professor of Art History, Department of Art, University of Virginia, will lecture on the intersections of drag and performance art in the 1960s and 1970s New York City. His talk intersects with two of his current works in progress: one, a monograph on Stephen Varble, known for his genderqueer and guerilla-style street performances; the other, a multi-artist study which examines the rise of downtown performance art in the wake of the Stonewall uprising.
