Biography

Hyungjun Cho is an Assistant Professor of AI & Design at the University of Florida. He holds a Ph.D. in Industrial Design from KAIST in South Korea, where he also earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees.

As a design-based Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) researcher, Hyungjun focuses on exploring the ways artificial intelligence (AI) impacts human experience. His work examines AI not only as a tool or technical infrastructure but also as a social entity, and considers how it may reshape our daily lives and broader sociocultural systems.

Rather than centering on conceptual or theoretical discussions, he prioritizes discourse through tangible design outcomes. He uses novel artifacts to speculate on possible futures and provoke critical conversations around emerging technologies. His aim is to reflect on technology from a designer’s perspective, translate those reflections into designed artifacts using practical skills, and engage interdisciplinary communities in meaningful dialogue about the trajectory of technological development.

His current research investigates how AI agents—whether embodied or not—can offer new forms of experience and relationship, particularly as potential members of future societies. More information about his work can be found on his personal website and Google Scholar.
