Nicole M. Isabelle

Biography

Nicole Isabelle is a New York City based artist, dancer, and educator. Primarily a painter, she makes work about/in/with nature and landscape, as well as the human body as landscape. She also creates whimsical illustrations and experiments with collage, printmaking, sculpture, and installation art. Her recent painting series, Magic Leaf Paintings, integrate abstract watercolor painting layered with prints of gathered leaves. As a movement artist, Nicole had a 15-year career in contemporary dance before transitioning to visual art. She has taught all ages of students from adults to toddlers, and has built her diverse teaching practice through over two decades teaching in university settings, public and private schools, community centers, and outreach initiatives. Nicole holds a BA from the University of Minnesota in Dance Studies, an MFA from the University of Hawai'i in Dance Performance and Choreography, and an MAAE in Art Education from the University of Florida. She is currently working on a series of artworks in which the markings on the paper are created soley by impressions of her body in motion.
