Amy Richard is a visual artist and sculptor.
Heavily influenced by the cycles of life, Richard's work is a response to the energy exhibited in nature, particularly within the detritus or "relics" that remain after life has moved on. Captivated by the unique presence that paper holds as a material, she uses bast fibers (the inner bark of specific plants) in an effort to capture that metapysical vibrancy in her sculptures, prints, paintings and artist books.
A native of Miami, Florida, Amy Richard completed a BFA in painting from Lamar University (Beaumont, TX) and an MFA in Book Arts from the University of Iowa (Iowa City, IA) with a special focus on hand papermaking as an expressive medium, as well as the historical, spiritual and healing aspects of the practice.
Richard currently lives in Gainesville, Florida where she works in her studio and teaches in the community and beyond.
