Dr. Joshua Davis is currently the Director of Bands at Louisiana College in PIneville, Louisiana. His role at Louisiana College includes conducting concert bands, directing the Wildcat Marching Band, and teaching courses in conducting, Music History, and wind instrument pedagogy. Davis also actively collaborates with other faculty in recitals and by conducting pit orchestras for musical theater and opera productions. He is also active in Central Louisiana as a clinician and adjudicator.
A recent graduate of the University of Florida, Davis received the Ph. D. in Music Education in December 2019. The focus of his studies were Wind Band Conducting and pedagogy. His dissertation, "Expert Middle School Band Directors' Pedagogical Approaches to Intonation Instruction" explored the methods and materials utilized by three outstanding directors to develop their students' fundamental tone production and pitch awareness. Prior to his work at the University of Florida, Davis received the Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction from Tennessee Technological University.
Davis's professional teaching experiences include: secondary school bands (6-12), chorus (9-12), elementary music (K-5), and guitar. He has also remained active as a performer/conductor in community concert and jazz bands. From 2007-2010, Davis served as a clarinetist in 101st Airborne Division Band, with whom he deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation: Enduring Freedom.
Dr. Davis is an active member of the Louisiana Music Educators Association, College Band Directors' National Association, and the National Association for Music Education. He is also an honorary member of Kappa Kappa Psi.
