The MFA in Acting degree challenges and focuses the advanced artist-scholar through rigorous professionally-oriented exploration in the classroom, laboratory, studio, and in public performance. It requires full-time intensive and extensive sequential study, preparing students for professional practice as actors in theatre, film, and television.  This program (typically completed in three years) includes 60 credits of course work, end-of-semester jury evaluations with an active nationally and internationally recognized faculty, a culminating performance project in the final year, and completion of an off-campus professional internship, as well as guest-artist workshops and residencies, an industry showcase, and opportunities at The Hippodrome, Gainesville’s resident Equity theatre.

In a climate of diversity, discovery and risk, the program challenges students to assimilate and communicate the creative process of the actor. Using traditional and innovative acting techniques and mastery of body and voice in practice, students develop a unique personal artistic aesthetic. This, combined with an awareness of current performance trends and professional standards, equips students to meet the demands placed on the 21st-century actor—to join the growing list of UF graduates working on Broadway, Off-Broadway, in national tours, at regional theatres, in television, film, and other digital media, as well as commercials and voice-overs.
