Alyssa Magnone creates exhibition materials for California museum

As part of the Exhibitions Seminar for the Museum Studies program, Alyssa Magnone created a Family Guide for an upcoming exhibition at the California State Railroad Museum (CSRM) in Sacramento, California. While it started as a project for the class, the museum staff liked the guide so much that they decided to use it for the exhibition. The staff edited the guide and it is now available for visitors to use at the exhibitionDouble Exposure: Photography and the Transcontinental Railroad.

Alyssa drew inspiration from Family Exhibition Guides at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, which are not only written so children can more easily understand the exhibits, but also include critical thinking questions, and educational and entertaining activities related to the exhibition. It is hoped that with this guide, children (and the adults accompanying them) will become more engaged with the contents of Double Exposure, both during their visit to the museum and once they return home as well. Alyssa is thrilled and honored that a class project turned into something that CSRM can use to educate their younger visitor.
