Failure is integral to artistic production, a necessary marker in the process to finding success. In Necessary Failures, participating artists consider their personal connection to rejections, accidents, mistakes, glitches, flubs miscalculations and mis-registrations and privilege experimentation, risk, and spontaneity. Cancellations, resists, negations and impossibilities all harbor their own profound potentialities and through what is often an iterative process – working, reworking, and reworking again – visual artists grapple with failure on a regular basis towards resolution. Necessary Failures casts an eye on the banality of everyday life, the constancy of collapse, and the certainty of failure as sites for productive invention and second chances.
