Festival Schedule

    In its third year, the Florida Electroacoustic Music Festival has featured a selection of contemporary electroacoustic art music. This year's composer-in-residence is Hubert S. Howe, Jr.

    Dr. Howe was educated at Princeton University, where he studied with J.K. Randall, Godfrey Winham, and milton Babbitt, and from which he received the A.B., M.F.A., and Ph. D. degrees. he was one of the first researchers in computer music, and became Professor of Music and Director of the Electronic Music Program at Queens College of the City University of New York and at the Julliard School. While most of his music is computer generated, he has composed instrumental and orchestral music, and he maintains an active interest in MIDI applications and computer-assisted composition. He served as President of the U.S. section of the International Society for Contemporary Music from 1970 until 1979, in which capacity he directed the first ISCM World Music Days ever held outside Europe. In 1988-89 heheld the Endowed Chair in Music at the University of Alabama. Since 1989 he has been Director of the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College.
