Founded and organized by Dr. Welson Tremura in 2001, the University of Florida’s Brazilian Music Institute (BMI) serves as a training ground for Brazilian music. Combining classical and popular styles of music, each year the BMI brings outstanding artists for a weeklong event designed to extend the experience and expand the possibilities of learning and performing Brazilian music. Through daily rehearsals and group lessons in Brazilian music with guest artists, the BMI offers a challenging and exciting atmosphere in addition to an aesthetically and socially rewarding activity for all participants. The Brazilian Music Institute is a genuine Brazilian musical experience in the United States.

The University of Florida’s Brazilian Music Institute (BMI), now in its nineteenth year, will gather outstanding Brazilian musicians for an intensive week of instruction May 13-17, 2019. This year’s BMI, taking place at NWSA, provides unique opportunities for singers, guitarists, percussionists, drummers, pianists and other instrumentalists to study with exceptional musicians such as: Vadim Arsky, Tabajara Belo, Aaron Colverson, Larry Crook, Jim Gasior, Beatriz Malnic and Welson Tremura. BMI features daily rehearsals and group lessons in Brazilian instrumental music as well as a concluding concert on Friday, May 17, 2019 in the MDC Live Arts Space at Miami Dade College titled Saudades do Brasil: Longing for Brazil. The concert will feature the guest artists and selected BMI participants. We hope you will join us for a week of some of the best of Brazilian music.
