Eleventh Annual Florida Electroacoustic Music Festival


    Launching into its second decade, the Florida Electroacoustic Music Festival has featured an international variety of contemporary electroacoustic art music. Past composers-in-residence have included internationally renowned composers such as Hubert S. Howe, Jr., Cort Lippe, Gary Nelson, Jon Appleton, Joel Chadabe, Larry Austin, Barry Truax, and Richard Boulanger.


    Call for Works

    A call for electroacoustic art music works that fit into the following catagories:

    • works for tape alone
        - two and four channel works for performance on up to 12 speakers
        - octophonic works (see formats available)

    • works for tape and instrumental solo
        - special interest in works including flute, clarinet, saxophone, horn, trombone, string bass, piano, and percussion

    • works utilizing interactive applications
        - Opcode's Max/Cycling '74's Msp (Macintosh 500MHz G4 w/384MB RAM & MOTU 2408 i/o)
        - Kyma 5.13 with Capybara 320
        - Yamaha Disklavier Grand Piano

    media formats supported:
    • CD
    • 16 and 24 bit RDAT
    • Tascam DA88/38
    • 1/4" 1/2 track
    • 1/4" 4-track

    Postmark deadline for submitted work(s) is:

    NOVEMBER 17, 2001

    All works that include live performance need to be accompanied by a tape of a performance or high quality realization. All submissions must include performance materials in the available media listed above, performance parts and/or score, brief biography (75-100 words), program notes (100 words or less), and contact information sheet; biographies or notes in excess of the maximum will be truncated. Incomplete submissions will not be reviewed. Please note if the composer can provide a performer. Contact information sheet must include a phone number, address, and, if available email address, www site, and fax number. A self-addressed stamped envelope (SASE) is required for the return of all materials (or international postal response return coupons). Tapes of works for performance and those not accompanied by an SASE will become the property of the Florida Electroacoustic Music Studio.

    All composers selected for performance are required to attend the festival; this is to provide a sense of community to the festival. There are no travel grants available directly from the festival. Should a composer be unable to attend the festival their work will not be presented.


    Call for Papers

    A call for papers, studio reports, and lecture/demonstrations dealing with:

    • all aspects of electroacoustic music - past, present and future
    • computer music
    • digital music
    • acoustics
    • psychoacoustics
    • related topics

    Submissions from all current areas of electroacoustic music research and historic perspectives are encouraged. Special interest is given to submissions dealing with acoustic ecology, interactive composition/synthesis, algorithmic composition, mew musical interfaces, and new techniques in wavelet/quantum synthesis.

    Postmark deadline for submitted paper(s) is:

    NOVEMBER 17, 2001

    Three copies of the completed paper, studio report, or lecture/demonstration abstract must be accompanied by a brief biography of 75-100 words and a contact sheet (abstract and biography should be promptly available on 3.5" floppy or via electronic transmission upon selection); biographies in excess of the maximum will be truncated. Contact information sheet must include a phone number, address, and, if available email address, www site, and fax number. All papers submitted will become part of the Florida Electroacoustic Music Studio Library.

    The University of Florida is located in the North Central Florida city of Gainesville. Gainesville is served by Delta Airlines (via American Southeast Airlines) and USAir Express. The city is approximately 2.5 hours drive by car from Jacksonville, Tallahassee, Orlando, and Tampa, Florida. Airport shuttle service can be provided by the festival hotel for transportation from/to the Gainesville Regional Airport but not to other airports.
