Mary Kate Keappler brings art to the community through Harn internship

By Katie Matthew

Mary Kate Keappler, a first-year Master in Museum Studies student at UF and intern at the Samuel P. Harn Museum of Art, is enjoying her new role within the museum. The Harn, located on the university’s campus, offers a variety of internships in different fields, including curatorial, development, education, finance, marketing and registration. Keappler, who double majored in history and southern studies at the University of Mississippi, is focusing on education with local children.

Keappler is the Harn’s Youth Education and Outreach intern. For her internship, she creates and executes lessons for “Art Time at the Library” and helps with Family Day and the Bishop Study Center. She is currently working on a new outreach program that will work with underprivileged children in southwest Gainesville.

“I have enjoyed my time at the Harn because it has allowed me to bring the resources of the museum to kids and families in the Gainesville community,” says Keappler who hopes to continue working in education after graduation. “I look forward to remaining part of the Education Department for the spring semester.”
