Dr. Leslie Odom re-elected as National President of Sigma Alpha Iota

Dr. Leslie Odom, Associate Professor of Oboe and Music Theory, has been re-elected as Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity’s National President at the organization’s recent National Convention held in Scottsdale, AZ at the end of July.  This is her third 3-year term as National President.  SAI has over 126,000 initiated members, with 227 Collegiate Chapters and 115 Alumnae Chapters organized into 64 Provinces and 8 Regions.  Along with overseeing the Fraternity side of SAI, Dr. Odom also sits on the board for SAI Philanthropies, Inc. which awards over $350,000 in scholarships and grants to collegiate and alumnae members each year.  SAI just completed a tremendously successful campaign that raised over $100,000 in two years for Pan’s Cottage which is part of the MacDowell Colony located in New Hampshire. This artist’s retreat has hosted thousands of composers, writers and visual artists since 1919.  SAI is affiliated with the National Interfraternity Music Council, the Professional Fraternity Association, Maud Powell Society for Music and Education, NAfME, International Alliance for Women in Music, along with several others.  This year Dr. Odom is celebrating her 30th year of teaching at UF!
