The 2018 UF Summer Choral & Orchestral Conducting Academy and Music Camp will be held June 18-22 and conclude with a performance of the camp chorus and orchestra in the beautiful University Auditorium. The Academy and Camp staff is made up of both University of Florida faculty and students. The core camp faculty includes Dr. Will Kesling, whose conducting career takes him around the globe, having conducted more than three hundred choirs at all levels and world-renowned orchestras on five continents. Also featured is Dr. Cory Alexander who has conducted and sung professionally in Florida, North Carolina, and Texas and was a recent finalist for the American Prize in Choral Conducting.
The Academy, made up of current high school chorus and orchestra directors, will provide Conducting Fellows instruction in conducting, score preparation, and analysis on Gjeilo’s Sunrise Mass, Schubert’s Mass in G for choral conductors, with Handel’s Sarabande and Jenkins’ Palladio for orchestra conductors.
The Camp, made up of high school chorus and orchestra students, will participate in daily rehearsals, receive music instruction, and take part in fun evening activities every night. Camp participants will form the chorus and orchestra for the works listed above.
All Academy and Camp attendees will stay in University of Florida dormitories and eat at fabulous UF dining facilities. This is a wonderful and rare opportunity to make new friends and perform great music in a beautiful venue while receiving world-class instruction at a world-class institution.
