SUMMARY:The Wisdom of Ananse: Ceramic Sculptures by Alex Awuku
DESCRIPTION:February 13\, 2026\, at 6:30 p.m.\, Opening Reception \n\n\n\nThe Wisdom of Ananse: Ceramic Sculptures by Alex Awuku opens Friday\, Feb 13 at 6:30pm at the Cotton Club Museum! \n\n\n\nThe exhibition will feature original clay sculptures that feature Ghanaian folk tales and the centuries-old wisdom gleaned from them. The sculptures also reveal Awuku’s concern that these stories\, and the wisdom they impart\, are being ignored and therefore lost with the current generation. Featuring Guest Curator\, Dr. Rebecca M. Nagy. \n\n\n\nThis exhibition will be on view Feb 13 – Aug 29 during regular museum hours. Free and open to the public.

SUMMARY:Health Humanities and Nature-based Therapies: Personal Wellness Maps of the UF Campus
DESCRIPTION:Join us to learn more about the natural areas on the UF campus\, maps and map making\, and different ways to create maps that reflect what areas of campus you find to be the most interesting and exciting! Find your happy place on the UF campus.  \n\n\n\nCreate your own individual wellness maps of the UF campus by participating in these events\, available to Summer B students and any other local residents who would like to learn more about the green spaces on campus.  \n\n\n\nSponsored in part by the College of the Arts Creative B Summer Program in partnership with the Office of the Provost.  If you have any questions about the events listed below\, please contact Dr. Nina Stoyan-Rosenzweig at nstoyan@ufl.edu.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCampus Tours\n\n\n\nTuesday\, June 30 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Tour of McCarty Woods and the Restoration Activities with Dr. Pamela Soltis  \n\n\n\nMeet up at the corner of Museum Road and Center Drive.  This event focuses on preservation efforts in McCarty Woods\, especially as a haven for native plants and pollinators. Join Dr. Pamela Soltis as she takes you on a tour of this special location and restoration activities.  \n\n\n\nWednesday\, July 8 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Forest Bathing and Reflective Writing near Lake Alice  \n\n\n\nMeet at the UF Bat Houses on the north side Museum Road across from Lake Alice. \n\n\n\nThis event will include a forest bathing (shinrin yoku) walk through the student gardens and into the University Gardens\, followed by a reflective writing exercise and discussion.  \n\n\n\nFriday\, July 10 from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. Forest Bathing and Reflective Writing at the Natural Area Teaching Lab  \n\n\n\nMeet by the trailhead of the Natural Area Teaching Lab\, off of Natural Area Drive. View the Natural Area Teaching Lab map. \n\n\n\nJoin Dr. Nina Stoyan-Rosenzweig at the trailhead of the Natural Area Teaching Lab on Natural Area Drive to explore the natural park area\, experience forest bathing (shinrin yoku)\, and conclude with a reflective writing exercise.  Tuesday\, July 14 from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Nature Walk and Wildlife Identification in the Digital Design Wetlands  \n\n\n\nMeet at the Digital Design Wetlands path between the UF TAPS office and the water treatment plant on Gale Lemerand Drive.  \n\n\n\nThis nature walk will look for animals and plants who live in this natural area and work on identifying them to create individual maps of healing places on campus.   \n\n\n\nWednesday\, July 22 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. Invasive Plant Workshop with Dr. Alice Rhoton  \n\n\n\nMeet at Wilmot Gardens (2023 Mowry Rd\, Gainesville\, FL 32610) near the corner of Gale Lemerand Drive and Mowry Road\, to explore the impacts of invasive plants on the campus ecosystem.  \n\n\n\nThursday\, July 23 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Therapeutic Horticulture Class with Leh Diehl and Lauren St. Clair  \n\n\n\nMeet at the Horticulture Sciences Teaching Farm\, 1786 IFAS Research Dr\, Gainesville\, FL 32608. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArt\, Maps\, and Nature Journals\n\n\n\nWednesday\, July 1 from 5:50 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Photographing Nature on the UF Campus with Dr. Nina Stoyan-Rosenzweig  \n\n\n\nMeet outside the Harrell Medicine Education Building\, 1104 S Newell Dr\, Gainesville\, FL 32601\, to explore and photograph critters and plants in the natural areas on the UF campus.  \n\n\n\nTuesday\, July 7 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.Introduction to GIS (Geographic Information System) with Joe Aufmuth \n\n\n\nLocation: Meet in Room 211\, the Instruction Lab\, behind the information desk on the second floor of Library West (1545 W University Ave\, Gainesville\, FL 32603) \n\n\n\nLearn more about mapping and data analysis technology\, how to visualize and analyze data on a map\, and find hidden connections. Learn more: What is Geographic Information System (GIS)? \n\n\n\nThursday\, July 9 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Creating Your Own Fantasy Map at the Harn Museum  \n\n\n\nJoin artist Sarah Hinds for a fun evening of activities as part of Harn Museum Nights at the Harn Museum of Art\, 3259 Hull Rd\, Gainesville\, FL 32608.  \n\n\n\nThursday\, July 16 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Nature Journaling Exercise with Dr. Nina Stoyan-Rosenzweig  \n\n\n\nMeet in Room C2-041A\, inside the Health Science Center Library (Communicore Building\, SW Archer Rd\, Gainesville\, FL 32610). Room C2-041A is located on the second floor. \n\n\n\nJoin Dr. Nina Stoyan-Rosenzweig for a nature journaling exercise involving creating mental maps of the campus. The group will meet in a library meeting room and wander outside to engage in capturing feelings inspired by being in campus natural areas. Journals\, watercolors and colored pencils will be provided.  \n\n\n\nTuesday\, July 21 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Explore the Map Collection at Smathers Library  Meet at the Map and Imagery Library on the first floor of Smathers Library\, 1508 Union Rd\, Gainesville\, FL 32611.  \n\n\n\nTake a tour of the UF map collection and be introduced to a wide range of formats for maps.   \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRecurring and Self-Scheduled Events\n\n\n\n\nStudents are welcome to join the UF Walk Club for regularly scheduled walks on Mondays from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Thursdays from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. Follow them on Instagram (@ufwalkclub) for more information. \n\n\n\nTake a self-guided Harn Museum Tour with an introduction to the museum gardens and Florida art.
