DESCRIPTION:February 13\, 2026\, at 6:30 p.m.\, Opening Reception \n\n\n\nThe Wisdom of Ananse: Ceramic Sculptures by Alex Awuku opens Friday\, Feb 13 at 6:30pm at the Cotton Club Museum! \n\n\n\nThe exhibition will feature original clay sculptures that feature Ghanaian folk tales and the centuries-old wisdom gleaned from them. The sculptures also reveal Awuku’s concern that these stories\, and the wisdom they impart\, are being ignored and therefore lost with the current generation. Featuring Guest Curator\, Dr. Rebecca M. Nagy. \n\n\n\nThis exhibition will be on view Feb 13 – Aug 29 during regular museum hours. Free and open to the public.

SUMMARY:Call to Artists: Center for Arts in Medicine Inaugural Art Showcase
DESCRIPTION:The University of Florida’s Center for Arts in Medicine is inviting UF students and alumni to submit original artwork for its first-ever Student Art Showcase\, celebrating the many ways creativity intersects with health and well-being. \n\n\n\nThe exhibition\, themed “Arts in Health\,” will be on display in the Reitz Union Gallery throughout the Spring 2027 semester. Artists are encouraged to interpret the theme in whatever way is most meaningful to them\, with submissions welcomed across all artistic disciplines. \n\n\n\nThe showcase is open to all current UF students and alumni\, regardless of major or artistic background. There is no limit to the number of pieces an artist may submit. The Center is seeking work in a wide range of creative modalities\, including: \n\n\n\n\nVisual art (painting\, photography\, sculpture\, and more)\n\n\n\nDigital art\n\n\n\nMusic\n\n\n\nDance\n\n\n\nTheater\n\n\n\nPoetry and creative writing\n\n\n\nOther artistic disciplines\n\n\n\n\nIn addition to the gallery exhibition\, artists whose submissions are performance-based (including music\, dance\, theater\, and spoken word) may be selected to perform during a live showcase event in late January 2027 at the Reitz Union Auditorium. Performances may also be recorded and incorporated into the exhibition. \n\n\n\nArtists are invited to include an artist statement describing the inspiration\, process\, or meaning behind their work. Those whose pieces reflect experiences with the Center for Arts in Medicine’s academic programs or arts in health initiatives are encouraged to share those connections. \n\n\n\nThe deadline to submit artwork is October 16\, 2026. \n\n\n\nSelected works will be featured in the inaugural exhibition\, providing an opportunity for artists to share their work with the broader UF community while exploring the powerful role the arts can play in health\, healing\, and human connection. \n\n\n\nClick here to apply! \n\n\n\n    \n		\n                    \n                UF Center for Arts in Medicine Student Art Showcase. DESCRIPTION:Members of the University of Florida carillon studio perform on the 61-bell cast bell carillon housed in Century Tower. Feel free to bring lawn chairs\, blankets (and even a light lunch!) while you enjoy the performance. Program details may be found near the base of the tower. The best listening locations are at least 100 feet away from the tower — if you can see the bells at the top of the tower\, you’ve found a great place!

DESCRIPTION:UF School of Music welcomes composer and bassist Alejandro Rutty as he presents music from his Why Bass? project\, an ongoing series exploring the extended-range electric bass as a solo instrument and in collaboration with other musicians. Blending elements of South American music\, jazz\, classical\, and experimental traditions\, Rutty’s work pairs lyrical melodies\, intricate rhythms\, and adventurous textures.Alejandro Rutty is Professor of Music Composition at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He will be joined by UF Assistant Professor of Bass Alex Pershounin.Free and open to the public.The School of Music building is open during construction. SUMMARY:Explorations of Embodiment: Symposium & Research Mixer
DESCRIPTION:Join UF faculty\, students and local community collaborators across multiple fields to explore how knowledge\, creativity and wellness emerge through nature and the body. The symposium will highlight embodied leadership in the age of hybrid intelligences\, dance based scientific inquiry\, creative wellness mapping\, bookmaking as self-expression\, walking and place based literary practices\, labyrinth making and cultural memory work. It will also include a research mixer as an interactive space for attendees to share works-in-progress\, exchange ideas and connect across disciplines.
