SUMMARY:Food is Medicine
DESCRIPTION:Dates and times: Friday\, August 1 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.Saturday\, August 2 from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOur Food is Medicine Creative B program begins with a simple premise: everybody eats. As we navigate major life changes and explore the many possibilities of what lies ahead\, our program centers food as a unifying force for healing\, understanding\, growth\, and connection. Food is medicine\, and we believe that sharing our food and cultural traditions with one another is key to building sustainable relationships that nourish ourselves and others. \n\n\n\nThrough a two-day series of interdisciplinary workshops and activities led by campus and community experts\, students are encouraged to practice relational knowledge and care through shared food and culture. Our program collaborators feature local businesses and organizations who will introduce students to a lush ecosystem of opportunities beyond campus to engage with art\, science\, and food cultures. \n\n\n\nThis event is free\, but RSVP is required as there are limited seats. \n\n\n\nIn collaboration between Center for Arts\, Migration and Entrepreneurship (CAME)\, Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (IFAS)\, and Center for Arts in Medicine (CAM) \n\n\n\nSponsored in part by the College of the Arts Creative B Summer Program in partnership with the Office of the Provost.

SUMMARY:Dr. Julian Saporiti (No-No Boy) - Lecture on How to Translate Academic Work into Music & Panel on Uses of Sound
DESCRIPTION:Dr. Julian Saporiti’s work represents the consilience of the arts and sciences. UF will host Dr. Saporiti for a one-week multidisciplinary residency\, including a special guest lecture at the Digital Worlds Institute. This lecture will be about how to translate academic work into something actively consumed by the public – specifically\, music. This will be followed by a panel on audio and sound design with Dr. Saporiti and Digital Worlds Faculty Angelos Barmpoutis and James Oliverio. \n\n\n\nRefreshments will be provided.Dr. Saporiti rose to national acclaim through his No-No Boy project\, wherein he distilled the stories he captured as part of his dissertation research on Asian-American history into folk songs. This body of work has been released by the legendary Smithsonian Folkways label. More recently\, he has taken his skill in translating research through music into ecology as the artist-in-residence at Hoyt Arboretum in Seattle\, exploring what songwriting and plantlife can look like together. His unique approach in presenting research in unexpected and meaningful ways has gotten hundreds of thousands of people to engage with his work in ways that they would not have if he had solely presented his work in the traditional academic methods. This event is part of Dr. Julian Saporiti’s week-long Residency at UF. Click here to learn more about the residency\, including the other activities that the week will entail. This presentation has been sponsored in part by the College of the Arts Creative B Summer Program in partnership with the Office of the Provost.

SUMMARY:Chaz Underriner: Pieces for Guitar\, Video\, and Electronics 2018-25
DESCRIPTION:Experience the dreamlike world of Chaz Underriner’s works for guitar\, video\, and electronics\, tracing the evolution of his multimedia practice over the past decade. From early pieces combining imagery from Japan and Florida\, to mid-period works inspired by Josef Albers’ The Interaction of Color\, to his most recent meditations on pattern through line drawings and sound\, Underriner’s art creates a space for contemplation. Joining him for this performance are clarinetist Jessica Speak and saxophonist Tim Rosenberg. An Associate Professor of Digital Arts at Stetson University\, Underriner integrates guitar\, electroacoustic composition\, and video into a distinctive aesthetic that blurs boundaries between sound and image.
