Who am I? Where am I heading? And how do I get there? These are questions we all ask ourselves, particularly at moments of transition. Understanding your identity capital can help you answer them.

Drawing on Meg Jay’s concept from The Defining Decade, identity capital is the collection of skills, experiences, relationships, knowledge, and personal assets we build over time. These are the things we invest in ourselves through our personal and professional lives, often without realizing that, piece by piece, they are becoming part of who we are.

This presentation explores how to recognize our experiences as identity capital and, ultimately, into a clearer sense of direction. Rather than viewing your experiences as a disconnected collection of jobs, classes, projects, or accomplishments, you’ll learn to identify the through-line connecting them. That story can reveal your strengths, clarify your why, and help you make more intentional choices about what comes next.

Your identity capital is your story. When you understand the experiences and choices that have shaped you, you can begin intentionally shaping what comes next.

A brief introduction to Arts in Medicine Graduate Programs will follow the presentation.
