Biography

Patrick studied anthropology as an undergraduate and received his MA in Latin American Studies from The University of Florida in Spring of 2021. His research addresses the aftermath of Colombia’s armed conflict, investigating in what ways violent experiences that happened in the past retain a force in the present, at once psychological, corporeal, and socio-cultural. In another step, Patrick is invested in exploring how artistic modes of expression have the capacity to render the unspeakable in text and image, and thus can be employed in the social sciences to illuminate aspects of experience that remain inaccessible for quantitative inquiry. When away from work, Patrick enjoys movies and reading, and likes to spend time on a small island off the coast of North Carolina called Ocracoke, where there are wild horses and a lighthouse.
