2021 Audition Information

Frequently Asked Questions

1.  What is the Virtual Information Session?

Virtual Information Sessions are this year’s version of our auditions days.  You will be able to do everything you would if you were on campus -except for an actual audition-which we are now requesting that you record and email to us.  We wanted to bring you as much of the same experience as possible, only virtually like most everything we all had to do this year.  We know what an important decision it is to decide where to attend college and we hope to give you a taste of what’s like to be a student at the UF School of Music.

2.  What should I expect do on my Virtual Information Session?

You will get to meet the performance faculty as well as non-performance faculty (academic faculty such as music education, composition, theory, etc.) You will have a chance to participate in live sessions with our School of Music Ambassadors, our music education faculty, and the administration.

3.  Should I have my instrument with me?

No, we are not expecting anyone to do anything with their instrument, nor  we shall ask anyone to play (or sing) during these days.

4.  How will I find out what the Zoom links are for my “Virtual Information session”?

We will start emailing students the week of January 18 with all the Zoom links to daily activities.  A general schedule can be found under “2021 Auditions” tab.

5.  What is the difference between the “area faculty chat” and “interview”?

The area faculty chats are an opportunity for you to meet the instructor of your instrument/voice. If you were auditioning in person, during your live audition, you would “chat” with them; they may ask you questions or you may ask them questions. This is the “Chat”.  Even though you maybe visiting us in person, we hope to give you the opportunity to meet the faculty members who may be teaching you the next 3-4 years!

Your “interview” is scheduled with a non-performance faculty (such as theory, composition, music history, music education, etc.) for them to ask you some questions to get to know you better. You may also ask questions about the music program at UF during this time.  It’s typically 10-15 minutes.

6.  As a transfer student who is doing a PPJ, how would I do my verbal presentation?

PPJ verbal presentation will take place during your "faculty chat". There is no playing/singing involved, just a verbal presentation.

7.  As a tranfser student if I'm qualified to do a CME, will the CME take place during the virtual information session on March 20?

No, we will contact students who have successfully been admitted to the School of Music sometime in April to set up the CME.

8.  What if I'm a graduate student?

Graduate students should refer to the "Step by step precedures for how to apply" in their interest area at:  Graduate Admissions | School of Music | College of the Arts | University of Florida (ufl.edu)
