Adolphe Sax Bicentennial Festival and Conference

High School Performance Competition

Eligibility:
The High School Performance Competition is open to saxophonists who will be in their junior or senior year of high school during the 2014-2015 academic year. There are no residency requirements.

Repertoire:
Competitors should prepare two movements, one from each of two different major works for saxophone. The repertoire chosen should showcase the performer's strengths in both lyrical and technical styles. Music should be equivalent to the Florida Bandmasters' Grade 6 or 7 difficulty level. A list of possible repertoire can be found here: http://arts.ufl.edu/music/saxophone/comprep.html

Accompaniment:
Competition performances must be accompanied by a piano. If you are unable to bring your own, a pianist can be provided for you for a fee. Recorded accompaniment is not allowed.

Prizes:
Major prizes will be in the form of music-program scholarships for study at the University of Florida. Additional prizes are being offered by Henri Selmer Paris/Conn-Selmer, Vandoren, and D'Addario. You do not need to attend--or plan to attend--the University of Florida in order to compete in the competition. In order to receive a scholarship award, winners must gain admission to the University of Florida, enroll as a music major, and remain a student in good standing in the School of Music. Winning an award does not imply acceptance to the University of Florida.

First Prize: $1500 annual scholarship. Four-year value: $6,000, plus prize packs from Henri Selmer Paris/Conn-Selmer, Vandoren, The Tuning CD, and D'Addario
Second Prize: $1000 annual scholarship. Four-year value $4,000, plus prize packs from Henri Selmer Paris/Conn-Selmer, Vandoren, The Tuning CD, and D'Addario
Third Prize: $500 annual scholarship. Four-year value $2,000, plus prize packs from Henri Selmer Paris/Conn-Selmer, Vandoren, The Tuning CD, and D'Addario

The judges reserve the right to not award any or all prizes if the level of playing does not meet the standard expected.

Process
The competition will take place on Saturday, November 8, 2014. There will be one round to this competition. Both pieces will be performed. In the interest of time, the judges may decide to hear only portions of each piece. Any required cuts will be announced on the day of the competition.

On the morning of the competition, candidates will draw numbers to determine performance order.
Prizes will be awarded at the end of the afternoon.
