University Gallery exhibition catalog wins award for graphic design excellence

Connie Hwang of Connie Hwang Designs in San Francisco, California, was awarded 2nd Prize: Less than $750,000 in the American Alliance of Museum's (AAM) 2014 Museum Publications Design Competition for the Garden of the Heart's Desire exhibition catalog. This competition of graphic design of museum publications is the only national, juried competition of its kind. The AAM considers this year’s entries to be “an interesting mix of risk-taking and classically designed books and catalogs.”

"Connie Hwang has designed many award-winning pieces for the University Galleries,” noted Amy Vigilante, director of University Galleries. “The five catalogs she has created for us will soon be available to the public through University Press. Ms. Hwang has been instrumental in the branding of the University Galleries' image and we are constantly awed by her innovative and stunning design work. Her latest catalog, COME HOME; Selections from the Collection of Hector Puig is currently available for gallery members."

When asked about her relationship with University Gallery, Hwang stated, “[We] have collaborated since 2003. After my departure from UF in 2008, we continue creating beautiful exhibition catalogs together.”

The competition will be featured in a special section in the November/December issue of Museum, the AAM’s monthly magazine.
