Silvio J. dos Santos delivers paper at joint meeting of the American Musicological Society and Society for Music Theory

Silvio J. dos Santos, Associate Professor of Musicology, delivered his paper “'Mata cacique' (Kill the Indian chief): The Crossroad Between Musical Activism and Indigenous Imagination in Brazilian Music” at the American Musicological Society/Society for Music Theory Annual Meeting in Vancouver, British Columbia, on November 5, 2016. This paper, which addresses the musical representation of violence against the Yanomami communities in Brazil, is part of his new project on Imagined Indigeneity in 20th-century Brazilian music.
