Ethnomusicology doctoral student Shabnam Goli awarded the Dale A. Olsen Prize

The Dale A. Olsen Prize is awarded annually to the best student paper presented at the annual SEMSEC (Southeast and Caribbean Chapter of the Society of Ethnomusicology) meeting. The prize is named in honor of Dale A. Olsen, founding member of SEMSEC and professor emeritus of ethnomusicology at Florida State University. The award is given by the program committee to a deserving student paper that meets the criteria of the prize. Shabnam Goli, ethnomusicology Ph.D. student at the University of Florida, recently received the award at the 2015 SEMSEC meeting for her paper entitled “Voices of a Rebellious Generation: Cultural and Political Resistance In Iran’s Underground Rock Music.”
