Jorge Variego receives honorable mention in The American Prize in Composition

In November 2015, Jorge Variego's piece “Walls” (for nine flutes) was awarded honorable mention in The American Prize in Composition in the Chamber Music Division. The work was completed during his Ph.D. studies at UF and is now part of several CDs, including Pendulum, released in 2014 by Parma Records in collaboration with the Society of Composers, Inc. The American Prize is a series of new, nonprofit national competitions in the performing arts providing cash awards, professional adjudication and regional, national and international recognition for the best recorded performances by ensembles and individuals each year in the United States at the professional, college/university, church, community and secondary school levels.
