Jorge Variego organizing Contemporary Music Festival at the University of Tennessee

Jorge Variego (Ph.D. Music Composition ‘11) is currently a full-time lecturer in Music Theory/Composition at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. This summer he had pieces premiered in Spain and Switzerland at two international festivals. A new work for vibraphone and electronics was commissioned and will be premiered in Galicia on September 5. During the fall, he was invited for performances and workshops in Miami at FIU and in Atlanta at Georgia Tech. Variego will present a work and research at the ICMC conference in Denton, North Texas. He is currently organizing the first edition of the Contemporary Music Festival at the University of Tennessee, with international guests and sponsors. Variego was also chosen as a semifinalist in the American Prize.
