Brazilian Music Institute Faculty Trio performs in South Florida

The UF Brazilian Music Institute Trio (BMI Trio) comprised of School of Music faculty members Larry Crook (percussion), Ulisses Rocha (guitar) and Welson Tremura (guitar and voice) traveled to Ft. Lauderdale to perform at ArtBrazil, a celebration of South Florida's contemporary Brazilian art scene honoring the Brazilian Independence Day, hosted by ArtServe on September 10, 2015. The standing-room-only event was supported by the Consulate General of Brazil in Miami and featured some of South Florida’s most talented contemporary artists reflecting the influence of Brazil on today’s international art scene.

The participation of the BMI Trio at the event is part of a three-year initiative to expand UF’s Brazilian Music Institute into South Florida through a grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. While in the South Florida, the BMI Trio also presented three workshops in Brazilian music for music students in the guitar program of Tina Gill at Cypress Bay High School in Broward County and met with South Florida’s vocal ensemble Brazilian Voices to plan the 2016 Brazilian Music Institute that will take place at Broward College’s Bailey Hall May 16-20, 2016.
