The School of Music proudly presents the UF Jazz Band Concert on Wednesday, November 16, at 7:30 pm in the University Auditorium. The jazz band concert's guest artist is UF alumnus Longineu Parsons. He will be performing a Louis Armstrong feature, selections with the UF Jazz Band and selections from his new avant-garde solo album. Parsons' performance will cover a large history of jazz music from early swing to bebop to avant-garde.

    Longineu Parsons

Longineu Parson is a jazz trumpet guru master having played with everyone from Cab Calloway to Nat Adderley.    He has performed in more than thirty countries and has been invited to play for such dignitaries as the king of Morocco, the president of Gabon, the royal family of the Netherlands, the president of Austria, the U.S. ambassador to France, the royal family of Monaco and members of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization.

Last year he was on an international tour doing a Louis Armstrong show while also getting a Doctorate in Composition from UF.  Longineu has appeared in the Broadway reunion production, “Black Stars of the Great White Way Reunion: Live the Dream.”  The reunion which was at Carnegie Hall payed tribute to the role African Americans have played in Broadway’s history and it honored the work of such entertainment legends as Louis Armstrong, Eubie Blake, Cab Calloway, Duke Ellington, Louis Jordan, Paul Robeson and Fats Waller.  Longineu also owns on record company Tribal Records and he recently recorded a new solo album which releases in 2017.
