    Did you know that October is National Arts & Humanities Month? To celebrate, UF is hosting Pop-Up Culture in the Plaza of the Americas on Wednesday, October 14 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Join us for an array of activities that will celebrate the arts and humanities at UF. From musical performances to live debates and from dancing to opportunities to paint, there’s something for everyone.     Pop-Up Culture Event Activities


    African Student Union Dance Troupe
    Performing cultural dance and choreography
    1:00 p.m. - 1:30 p.m.

    Albanian Student Association
    Performing traditional Albanian dances
    11:30 p.m. - 12:00 p.m.

    Arts In Health
    Will provide music, dance, art and origami for everyone in the Plaza
    1:00 p.m. - 1:30 p.m.

    Black Affairs Department
    Will be handing out organizational flyers and promotions
    All Day

    Center for the Humanities and the Public Sphere
    Tabling with giveaways and information
    All Day

    Cinema Verde International Environmental Film and Arts Festival
    Tabling with information and maybe a visit from the bag monster
    All Day

    CLAS Language Students
    Providing temporary Chinese tattoos
    12:30 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.

    College of the Arts
    Tabling with giveaways plus an activity in which students express what art is to them 
    All Day

    Florida Experimental Film/Video (UFLEX)
    Will have a film station to teach participants about processes of analog filmmaking, as well as inviting them to the annual Florida Experimental Film/Video Festival (FLEXfest)
    12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m.

    Florida Museum of Natural History
    Tabling with information about their exhibitions and ways students can get involved
    All Day

    Florida Swing Dancing Club
    A demonstration of various styles of swing dance (Lindy Hop, Charleston, blues and more) as well as line dances
    1:30 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.

    Gainesville Civic Chorus
    Teaming up with the UF Concert Choir to perform a variety of songs
    12:00 p.m. - 12:30 p.m.

    H.O.T. Clay
    Slow down and take notice of life with wabi sabi tea cups and free tea
    12:00 p.m. - 12:30 p.m.

    Harn Museum of Art
    Students will have the opportunity to paint a large banner set up in the Plaza

    Hip Hop Collective
    Breakdancing and popping with emcee, d.j. and beatbox

    Hippodrome Theatre
    Tabling with informational flyers about upcoming shows and acting classes

    Intramural Debate Team
    Hosting a Socratic seminar on the topic of civil disobedience

    It's In The Reeds
    A saxophone quartet performing Beethoven, Debussy, Gershwin, Albeniz and Dubois

    Project Springboard
    Participants will create a 6 ft. x 8 ft. Mona Lisa with over 10,000 rubber bands (project funded by a grant from the Bob Graham Center)

    Quarter Sized Tuba Quartet
    A euphonium quartet performing arrangements of music from selections: O Magnum MysteriumContrapunctus IXAchieved is the Glorious Work and Danny Boy

    Ros Fiol
    Ros will be drawing quick caricatures of individuals who will to sit for up to five minutes

    Samuel Proctor Oral History Program
    Tabling with materials that will use both audio and visuals to highlight recent student work and compelling insights from their major oral history collections

    Sci Chic-The Fashionable Side of Science is blending engineering and art with 3D printed jewelry
