Hollywood has had a long love affair with the opera world that dates back to the early years of film making and continues today. The list of famous movies that have underscored their plots through an opera scene or made an opera integral to the storyline is long indeed.  Who can forget Julia Roberts playing a good- hearted courtesan at the opera La Traviata in the movie Pretty Woman, Wagner’s Ride of the Valkyries as a helicopter flies over a village in Apocalypse Now, or everyone’s favorite bunny, Bugs, singing “Figaro” in the animated parody The  Rabbit of Seville and What’s Opera Doc!

Join the UF Opera Theatre and Ocala Symphony Orchestra for this multimedia event featuring film clips and fully costumed / staged scenes from The Marriage of Figaro(The Shawshank Redemption), The Tales of Hoffmann (Life is Beautiful), La Bohème (Moonstruck), and many, many more… It is truly an evening of entertainment for both the music and film lover alike.

Talented vocal performers from the UF School of Music graduate and undergraduate music and musical theatre programs make up the cast and are under the direction of Dr. Anthony Offerle. Maestro Mathew Wardell conducts the Ocala Symphony Orchestra in this joint production!
