University Gallery Exhibition: Emergence & Structure
Presented by UF School of Art + Art History (College of Fine Arts)
An exhibition of paintings and drawings by 16 artists who utilize science and mathematics to inform their work. The respective artists utilize aspects of science to inform their work by adapting scientifically inspired methodologies, employing conceptual underpinnings related to scientific discovery, or observing the study of natural systems and structures that exist in all scales throughout the universe. Broadway smash Urinetown is a wicked satire of municipal corruption and corporate greed set in a (perhaps not so distant) time when severe droughts have limited water supply and the authorities have made flushing a luxury. With bouncy music, romantic entanglements, and sarcastic lyrics, "urine" for a new perspective on love, loss, and Politics with a capital "pee."

Presented by HUM 2305: What is the Good Life; a course jointly overseen by UF College of Fine Arts, CLAS, and DCP
Dr. George Rupp, President and CEO of the International Rescue Committee and former President of Columbia University, will deliver the common Humanities lecture, "What is the Good Life?" Pursuit of the good life often includes concern for individual happiness and accomplishment, satisfaction in love and work, but as Dr. Rupp argues, it also requires consideration of larger issues, participation in ever more inclusive communities, and commitment to causes that in the end embrace all of humanity, indeed the whole cosmos.

Dan Hill is a painter / musician, and graduate of the School of Visual Arts in NYC. He recently taught at SVA and the Joan Mitchell Foundation. His work has been shown at the McKenzie Gallery, NYC. Dan is my co-curator for the exhibition. Robin Hill is an artist whose work focuses on the intersection between drawing, photography, and sculpture. Her large-scale installations capture wayward moments of beauty while extending the life of the sculptural components she uses to generate photographic images in cyanotype. She is on the studio art faculty at University of California at Davis and is represented in New York by Lennon-Weinberg, Inc. She is the recipient of two Pollock-Krasner Foundation Awards, A National Endowment for the Arts Sculpture Fellowship, and a Davis Humanities Institute Fellowship.
