Brazilian Music Institute / Frequently Asked Questions

What is the time commitment (hours per day)?

The Brazilian Music Institute requires a minimum of two hours per day, from 9 a.m. - 11 a.m. for individual instrument/voice workshops, from Monday through Friday. For those who are invited to participate in the final concert on Saturday, there will be additional rehearsal time from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Is there a schedule for the week?

Yes, May 13-17, 2019. From 9 - 10 a.m. there are individual workshops (Monday through Friday) and from 10 - 11 a.m. there are master classes and lectures (Monday through Thursday). Rehearsals for the closing concert are from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Every day attendance is not mandatory for general workshop participants, however it will be required for those who will be performing with the faculty artists in the final concert. 

Can I participate in more than one instrument segment (i.e. vocals and percussion)?

Yes. However, you will not be able to attend all workshop for all the instrument segments selected, as they are carried out simultaneously. For maximum benefit, the faculty recommends to concentrate in a single instrument segment.

Can beginners participate in the workshops?

Yes, as long as he/she has a basic understanding of the musical instrument/voice. This year, individual workshops cover guitar, piano, voice, percussion, and horn/woodwind.

Are all participants expected to perform in the concert?

Participants who wish to participate in the final concerts should notify their respective segment faculty during the first workshop. Additional rehearsal time will be required for those elected to participate. The faculty will make an assessment of the readiness of each participant throughout the workshops.

Is there a screening process?

Yes, initially this is based on the registration form and then screening will take place during the first meeting in order to evaluate the level of experience and training of participants.

How will the rehearsals be planned?

Main rehearsals for the final concert are from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. daily. However, some rehearsal may occur from 4 to 6 p.m. during the week and will be adjusted according to the needs of the show. 

What do I need to bring to the workshops?

Bring your musical instrument (in case of woodwind/horn or guitar). If you are a singer, percussionist or pianist, appropriate instruments will be provided.

Will I obtain a certificate of participation?

Letter of participation will be provided upon request.
