Mission

College of the Arts Mission

The College of the Arts fosters creative activity, scholarly and artistic excellence and innovation across disciplines.  We achieve the university’s mission by training professionals and educating students as artists and scholars, while developing their critical thinking and inspiring a culture of curiosity and imagination.

The University of Florida is a comprehensive learning institution built on a land grant foundation.  We are The Gator Nation, a diverse community dedicated to excellence in education and research and shaping a better future for Florida, the nation and the world.  Our mission is to enable our students to lead and influence the next generation and beyond for economic, cultural and societal benefit.

Strategic Priorities

Goal 1.  Offer academic programs that meet the highest standard of excellence

  1. Raise the quality and profile of graduate programs.
  2. Maintain and improve facilities and equipment.
  3. Increase enrollment across the College, including General Education courses and BA programs.
  4. Review and develop new strategies for summer programs. 
  5. Enhance and sustain interdisciplinary courses and programs. 
  6. Expand international experiences in alignment with the UF Quality Enhancement Plan Learning without Borders: Internationalizing the Gator Nation
  7. Expand distance learning offerings and online programs. 
  8. Expand 4+1 and 2+2 programs.   
  9. Participate in the UF Innovation Academy. 
  10. Develop and maintain embedded assessment practices. 

Goal 2. Develop a culture of creativity, innovation and access

  1. Recognize, develop and support faculty and student academic and creative research. 
  2. Respond dynamically to the changing pedagogical demands of 21st century students. 
  3. Accelerate integration of academic technology. 
  4. License selected courses to other institutions.
  5. Expand opportunities for internships.
  6. Increase opportunities for guest artists, speakers and researchers. 
  7. Establish and strengthen collaborations that enhance the College. 

Goal 3. Attract and retain faculty, staff and students whose talents contribute to the advancement of the university

  1. Strengthen incentives for attracting and retaining desirable faculty.
  2. Refine and implement enhanced student recruitment strategies. 
  3. Expand faculty and student participation in competitions, performances, professional practices, exhibitions, and conferences.
  4. Prioritize and expand opportunities, visibility and recognition through outreach and civic engagement.
  5. Advance the role of faculty, staff and students in university-wide governance and professional leadership on the national level. 
  6. Strengthen awareness of the role and impact of the arts and creativity across the UF campus, locally, nationally and internationally.
